Gambhir, however, explained the reason for not giving Suryakumar a chance at number three. Gambhir said, "I just regret that I didn’t play Suryakumar at number three. There were players like Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan and so we always had to use them as finishers. A lot of players move from one franchise to another."

Gambhir also believes that for four years KKR played an important role in grooming Suryakumar Yadav. They said, "He is the one we groomed for four years and then let him go and now he is at the peak of his career because we could not give him that space."
