Seoul. Carmaker Hyundai Motor has said it will increase the proportion of electric vehicles in global sales to 80 per cent by 2040. All-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles currently account for just 1.5 percent of Hyundai’s global sales and initially aims to increase the ratio to 30 percent by 2030, Yonhap News Agency reports.

To achieve this goal, Hyundai said it would gradually shift its product lineup to hydrogen or battery-powered models sold in Europe by 2035 and other key markets by 2040.

Hyundai plans to expand the hydrogen-powered vehicle lineup from the only model Nexo to three. Two additional models will be a multi-purpose vehicle and a sports vehicle.

The company did not provide a time frame for the lineup expansion.

In related efforts, Hyundai plans to cut its carbon emissions by 75 percent compared to 2019 levels by 2040 and reach carbon neutrality, or net-zero carbon dioxide emissions, in 2045, the report said. is kept.
