In archery, India’s Atanu Das took one more step for the medal, made a place in the quarter finals

Tokyo Olympics 2020: India got off to a great start in the Tokyo Olympics today. In Archery, Atanu Das has made it to the quarterfinals by winning the round of 16 in men’s singles. Atanu Das won 6-5 in this tough match against London Olympic champion South Korea’s star player O Jin Yek. Earlier this morning, Atanu defeated Yu Cheng Deng of Chinese Taipei 6-4 in his first match of the round of 32 played this morning.

In this match between Atanu Das and the Korean player, there was a tough struggle from the beginning. O Jin Yek of Korea won the first set with a score of 25-26 with a margin of only one point and took a 0-2 lead in the match. After this, in both the sets, there was an equal match between the two archers. In the second and third sets, both the players played out a draw with a score of 27-27. With this, the score of the match became 2-4 after three sets.

Atanu Das set his name for the fourth

After this, in the fourth set, Atanu Das did not give any chance to Jin Yek and won the set by a margin of 27-22 with his perfect arrows and brought the score of the match at 4-4. After this, once again in the fifth and deciding set, the match ended in a tie with a difference of 28-28 and the score became 5-5.

After this the match was decided by shootoff. In which Atanu Das got a score of ‘Perfect Ten’ and hindered another step towards the medal. The Korean archer could only score 9 points in this shoot-off.

Beat Chinese Taipei player in Round of 32

Earlier this morning, India’s Atanu Das defeated Yu Cheng Deng of Chinese Taipei 6-4 in his round of 32 match. World No. 9 Das started with 10 points in the first set and hit eight and nine. The world number 122 of Chinese Taipei could only collect eight, nine, nine points as the Indian player won the first set 27-26 to take a 2-0 lead.

In the second set too, Das scored a total of 27 points with nine, 10 and eight points. Deng, however, leveled the match with 28 points with two 10s and an eight. Das scored 28 points in the third set with 10 and twice nine points while the Chinese Taipei player managed to collect only 26 points with seven points on the last arrow. Das started with a poor score of eight points in the fourth set and scored 27 points in the next two attempts with nine and 10 points. Deng however managed to score 4-4 after scoring 28 points with one 10 and two nine.

In the fifth and deciding set, both the archers started with 10 and 9 points. Deng, however, managed to collect only seven points in the last attempt and Das won the set with nine points to win the set 28-26.
