IPL 2020: Mandeep became emotional after playing 66 not out, said- Papa always wanted to be not out

In the 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kings XI Punjab defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets on Monday. Kolkata Knight Riders, batting first, set a target of 150 runs in front of Punjab. The Punjab team easily won the match in 18.5 overs thanks to openers Mandeep Singh and Chris Gayle’s half-centuries. Mandeep Singh returned not out after scoring 66 runs. Mandeep Singh, who lost his father three days ago, dedicated this innings to his father. He said that father always wanted him to be ‘notout’.

Mandeep remembered his father after looking at the sky with moist eyes after taking a fifty against Kolkata. After the match, he said, ‘This is a very special innings. My father always said that I should stay notout. This shift is for them. If I could score a century or a double century, he would ask why I was out. Mandeep hit 8 fours and two sixes in his unbeaten innings.

I met KL Rahul

Despite being an explosive batsman like Chris Gayle, KL Rahul has expressed confidence in Mandeep Singh for the opening. Mandeep said, ‘My job was to score fast but I was not comfortable in it. I told Rahul if I can show my natural game and finish the match. He supported me and played aggressively himself. Rahul scored 28 runs with the help of four fours. Mandeep praised Chris Gayle saying that he is the universal boss, he should never retire.

Morgan explained the reason for the defeat

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan said after losing by eight wickets against Kings XI Punjab that his team was losing wickets at frequent intervals so could not score big. After the match, Morgan said, “If you lose a quick wicket, especially in Sharjah, you have to counter attack. I am disappointed that our partnership could not go much further.”

He said, “We had lost three wickets. It was a matter of partnership. We thought that we would reach 185-190. It would have been a goal to win the match, but it could not happen, we kept losing wickets continuously.”
