For the tour of Australia, the mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty of Kolkata Knight Riders has been included in the Indian team. Chakraborty will be part of Team India in the series of three T20 matches against Australia. The 29-year-old cricketer, who played only one first-class match, impressed everyone in the IPL 2020.
Ashwin tested Varun’s skills
In the year 2018, Indian team’s star player Ravichandran Ashwin wanted a leg-spinner in his team. He told the Tamil Nadu selectors that a leg-spinner is needed in the team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In Tamil Nadu Premier League and some local tournaments, Ashwin saw Varun Chakraborty. India’s star spinner Ashwin was also very impressed with his bowling. Because of Ashwin, Varun Chakraborty got an opportunity to play for Tamil Nadu.
In the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2018, Varun has taken 22 wickets in just 9 matches at an average of 4.23. After this, he got a chance to play in Ranji Trophy as well. The 29-year-old bowler started his career as a professional cricketer from the Tamilanadu Premier League. In the IPL 2019 auction, he was bought by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 8.4 crore. In his very first over, Varun sat for 25 runs. In the IPL debut, no bowler gave so much runs in his first over. Last year, he got a chance to play only one match.
Kolkata gave a chance
After this, Varun, the team of Kings XI, was released in 2020. Varun Chakraborty started to think that maybe this time there will not be a chance in IPL. But this time Kolkata Knight Riders included him in the team. For Kolkata, this bowler has taken 13 wickets in 11 matches so far. Varun, who took 5 wickets for just 20 runs against Delhi Capitals in Abu Dhabi, has now been included in the Indian team. Next year is the T20 World Cup and Varun has a golden opportunity to show his stamina in Australia.
