Alexandre Léauté continues his harvest at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. Already a gold medalist in the C2 pursuit and silver in the kilometer time trial, the para cyclist won the bronze medal in the C2 road cycling time trial on Tuesday, August 31. He offers a 29th charm to the French delegation.

At only 20 years old, Alexandre Léauté won his third Paralympic medal in these Games. After gold in the individual pursuit and silver over the kilometer on the track, the French won bronze in the road time trial (C2). However, the young para-athlete had a technical problem in the last kilometers, causing him to lose precious minutes.

Double reigning world champion in the discipline, Alexandre Léauté was particularly eagerly awaited on the Fuji Speedway racing circuit. The 20-year-old Frenchman got off to a cautious start. He was in fifth position 30 seconds from the lead at the first intermediate, located eight kilometers after the start, before accelerating seriously. In the second intermediate, he was replaced in second position, behind the future Australian Paralympic champion Darren Hicks, untouchable Tuesday.

Léauté was still fighting for money in the last few hundred meters when a cruel mechanical incident caused him to lose precious seconds. The second place flew away, finally delighted by the Belgian Ewoud Vromant (+ 1’32 ” on Hicks), but the Breton still saved the bronze medal with ten seconds ahead of the Chinese Guihua Liang, 4th, and 2’27 ” behind Darren Hicks.

The first Paralympic Games for the native of Saint-Caradec (Côtes-d’Armor) are not yet over as he participates in the C1-C3 road race on Thursday, September 2. With already three medals on the clock, in any case he will not leave Tokyo empty-handed.
