Tata Motors passenger vehicle sales overtake Hyundai in December

New Delhi. Automobile maker Tata Motors’ passenger vehicles vertical sold more units in December than Hyundai Motor India.

In addition, PV, Tata Motors has a major presence in the commercial vehicle segment.

Tata Motors’ total domestic passenger vehicle sales grew 50 per cent to 35,299 units from 23,545 units off-take in December 2020.

“Tata Motors PV’s business growth continued and accelerated further during the quarter, while semiconductor production declined due to the pandemic,” said Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors.

Chandra also said that the progressive revival of the EV fleet segment along with the ever-increasing demand for Nexon EV and Tigor EV were instrumental in driving this sharp growth.

“Semiconductor supply will continue to be a major source of uncertainty. Additionally, the impact of the new strain of corona needs to be closely monitored,” Chandra said.

In comparison, Hyundai Motor India’s domestic sales declined by 31.8 per cent to 32,312 units as against 47,400 units in the same period last year.

Tarun Garg, Director (Sales, Marketing and Service), Hyundai Motor India said, “Despite key component supply constraints, HMI has asked our dear customers to address the challenges to ensure smooth delivery of their favorite Hyundai cars to our beloved customers.”

The company’s sales declined to 48,933 units last month from 66,750 units sold during December 2020. (IANS)
