Tennis: Hugo Gaston qualifies for his first ATP semi-final in Gstaad

Frenchman Hugo Gaston qualified on Friday July 23 for his first semi-final of an ATP tournament at the ATP 250 in Gstaad (Switzerland). His compatriots Benoit Paire and Arthur Rinderknech, for their part, did not cross the pitfall of the quarters.

Hugo Gaston, 155th in the world, had already taken out the No. 5 seed, Argentina’s Federico Delbonis, in the previous round. He beat the Chilean Cristian Garin (19th in the world), seeded No.4 in three sets (6-4, 1-6, 7-6 [13]) and saving four match points.

However, he lost his footing in the second set before winning the tie-break of the third at the end of the suspense (13-11) and offering himself a place in the semi-finals for the first time in his ATP career. At 20, he will also be the youngest semi-finalist in the Swiss tournament since 2006.

He will face Serbian Laslo Djere, 52nd in the world and seeded No. 7, on Saturday, who beat another Frenchman, Arthur Rinderknech (100th) at the end of a disputed meeting 6-4, 6-7 (5/7), 6-4.

Another Frenchman who fell on Friday, Benoit Paire (49th in the world) seeded n ° 6, was beaten by the Norwegian Casper Ruud, seeded n ° 3 and 14th player in the world, who dominated him in three sets 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.

The other semi-final will pit Ruud against Czech Vít Kopriva (249th in the world) who beat the Swede Mikael Ymer, 96th in the world, 6-1, 6-0.
