The BSE Sensex fell 2.6 percent and the Nifty declined 2.41 percent during the week ended 30 October.

Mumbai The BSE Sensex lost 1,071.43 points, or 2.6 percent, to close at 39,614.07, while the Nifty-50 slipped 287.95 points or 2.41 percent to 11,642.40 during the week ended October 30.

The BSE small-cap index fell 1.6 percent last week. GE Power India, Sonata Software, Himatsingka Seed, Globus Spirits, Indiabulls Integrated Services, Jayaprakash Power Ventures, Indo Count Industries declined more than 12 percent, while HBL Power Systems, Carborundan Universal, Onmobile Global, Gati, Blue Dart Express and Gufic biosciences rose more than 13 percent.

The BSE midcap index was down 0.48 percent during the week. Federal Bank, M&M Financial Services, Bharat Forge and Future Retail were the biggest losers, while Adani Green Energy, Cholamandalam Investment, Adani Enterprises and CRISIL were the major gainers.

The BSE large-cap index declined 2.4 percent this week. Hindustan Zinc, Hero MotoCorp, Vedanta, Lupine and DLF were the top losers in the BSC. Kotak Mahindra Bank, Nestle India, Avenue Supermarts, Shree Cements and Ambuja Cements were the top gainers.

On the sector front, the Nifty PSU Bank index fell more than 4.5 percent, falling below other indices, followed by Nifty Auto (4 percent), Nifty Metal (down 4 percent), while the Nifty Energy Index was up 0.5 percent.

In the last week, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 972.66 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold equities worth Rs 2,170.78 crore. However, in the month of October, FIIs bought equity worth Rs 14,537.40 crore and DIIs sold equities worth Rs 17,318.44 crore.

On a weekly basis, the Indian rupee lost 51 paise against the US dollar. It closed at 74.11 per dollar on October 29, while it closed at 73.60 per dollar on October 23. It is noteworthy that the domestic currency market was closed on 30 October due to the festival of Eid ul Milad.
