For this fifth day on the courts of the WTA 1000 in Rome, Friday 14 May, Pliskova qualified after a crazy match against Ostapenko and joined Martic in the semi-final. The meeting Ashleigh Barty-Cori Gauff is it currently interrupted because of the rain which falls on Rome.

Karolina Pliskova is back in the semi-finals of a WTA tournament for the first time since … her final in Rome last September! The Czech, decidedly at ease in Italy, dominated after the suspense Jelena Ostapenko 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 this Friday.

At 6-4, 2-0, the Latvian was nevertheless in a strong position but finally let Pliskova hang on and gain the upper hand in the decisive tie-break. Above all, the 9th in the world saved three match points at 5-4 in favor of Ostapenko. The turning point of the match, since after that the Latvian no longer had a break point and received a lesson in the tie-break, 7-1.

Great victory for Karolina Pliskova who finally launches her season and will face Petra Martic, downplayer of Jessica Pegula (7-5, 6-4), for a place in the final.
