The island of Tanzania is located just off the East African coast and is fast becoming a tourist destination. The northern end of the island is a haven of beach resorts, ranging from luxury to the lower end, all with associated restaurants, souvenir shops, and all-night party venues. That’s not to say that it isn’t endless fun!
Those looking for something a little more untouched will find much to their liking on the east side of the island, where fishing villages still line the coast.
Divers and snorkelers will be spoiled for choice when it comes to endless coral reefs to explore. Get up close and personal with the forest’s residents – especially the red colobus monkey – in the Jozani Forest. Or just spend your time exploring beach after beach and watching the local dolphins glide through.
Zanzibar has a fascinating history, and its beautiful remains can be seen throughout the island. Stone Town is the heart and soul of Zanzibar Town, with its old cobbled streets and Arabic architecture. Beit al-Ajaib and Matoni Palace, as well as the Old Fort are fascinating well-preserved buildings that tell stories from Zanzibar’s past. The Kidichi Persian Baths are also worth visiting to see how the royal Persians spent their time.
